On Monday, bitcoin hovered just under the $80,000 mark after retreating slightly from previous weekly gains.
As per The Block’s bitcoin pricing data, the premier digital asset by market value changed hands around $79,500. Earlier in the week prior to Friday’s employment report, it had risen past $82,000; that jobs data revealed August additions of 162,000 positions compared to the anticipated 55,000, while the unemployment rate stayed steady at 4.1%.
Following that release, data from CME’s FedWatch utility indicated that the probability implied for a 25 basis point Federal Reserve interest rate increase on September 16 climbed to roughly 60%. Treasury yields and the greenback both advanced in response to the figures, placing downward pressure on bitcoin and other assets sensitive to interest rates.
Joel Kruger, market strategist at LMAX Group, shared with The Block that “the crypto market continues to display exceptional resilience despite having been presented with plenty of reasons to correct.” He added that “bitcoin is holding near $80,000 following an aggressive August rally that pushed momentum into overbought territory.”
Furthermore, Kruger highlighted climbing Treasury yields and advancing oil prices stemming from recent tensions between the United States and Iran. He noted that what stands out is the crypto space absorbing these challenges without experiencing significant technical damage.
Bitcoin ETF inflows extend for third week
U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds brought in $987 million across the prior week, extending their positive flows to three straight weeks.
At the same time, analysts at QCP Capital pointed out that daily flow fluctuations looked more like participants adjusting positions while awaiting clarity ahead of upcoming data rather than making firm directional bets, establishing local resistance between $80,000 and $82,000 alongside support from $77,000 to $78,000.
Onchain metrics additionally demonstrated that realized capitalization grew amidst recent price movements. CryptoQuant analyst Axel Adler Jr. reported that the 30-day change in realized capitalization turned positive on August 24 following an 87-day stretch in negative territory. By September 6, this indicator had advanced to 0.88%, with realized capitalization expanding by $9.36 billion over that 30-day window to reach $1.068 trillion.
An increasing realized cap signifies that bitcoin transactions are occurring at elevated prices, which Adler stated underpins the market recovery as valuations sustain levels near $80,000.
Market participants now direct their focus toward U.S. producer price figures slated for Thursday, followed by August’s Consumer Price Index report on Friday, marking the final major inflation updates ahead of the September 16 Federal Reserve gathering. Kyle Rodda, senior financial market analyst at Capital.com, noted that headline CPI is projected to remain at 3.4% year-over-year, whereas core CPI is anticipated to decline to 2.4%.
Rodda observed that the core figure might supply sufficient indicators of disinflation for the Fed to maintain rates, whereas any reading exceeding forecasts could reintroduce the prospect of a rate hike.
