Fnality has appointed former Bank of England deputy governor Jon Cunliffe to lead its UK board as the distributed ledger settlement firm works on euro and US dollar payment mechanisms.
The organization announced on Thursday that Jochen Metzger, an ex-director general for payments and settlement systems at the Deutsche Bundesbank, has become part of its European subsidiary’s supervisory board and is slated to take the chairmanship. Ron Berndsen, an ex-high-ranking official from the Dutch central bank, additionally came onto the board.
Fnality’s British pound payment network went live in 2023 and operates under Bank of England oversight. It allows financial market actors to clear transactions leveraging central bank reserves.
The enterprise explained that its blockchain clearing architecture aims to power tokenized asset ecosystems alongside banking participation in stablecoins and tokenized deposits.
“As the tokenisation of financial markets gathers pace, settlement in the safest assets available will be crucial to maintaining financial stability,” Cunliffe said in the announcement.
Fnality has set up an entity in Eschborn, Germany, to build its planned euro payment platform. It has additionally established Fnality Bank U.S. in Stamford, Connecticut, where it is formulating strategies for a greenback network and holding discussions with American regulators.
The London-headquartered financial technology firm secured $136 million during a Series C financing phase in September 2025, drawing backing from funders such as Temasek, Euroclear, and Goldman Sachs, based on records compiled by Traxcn.
