On Wednesday, Deutsche Bank announced its intention to roll out digital asset safekeeping services for corporate and institutional customers throughout Europe within the current year, subject to regulatory approval.
In an official statement, the German financial institution noted that the platform will support bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), and specific stablecoins such as USDC, EURC, and EURAU at launch. The organization explained that it will oversee user wallets and cryptographic keys, enabling participants to store virtual currencies and route them to outside parties directly without needing to establish proprietary custody frameworks.
Established back in 1870, Deutsche Bank has spent a considerable amount of time crafting its cryptocurrency safekeeping product. Reuters reported during September 2023 that the institution had joined forces with Taurus to deliver storage solutions for corporate digital holdings. Furthermore, Bloomberg covered the planned 2026 rollout last year, highlighting participation from Bitpanda and Taurus in the initiative.
Through its announcement, Deutsche Bank specified that its early customer demographic will encompass businesses, asset management firms, hedge funds, safekeeping entities, brokerages, and government-backed organizations managed via its Corporate and Investment Banking divisions.
Gerald Podobnik, who serves as the Co-Head of Corporate Banking at Deutsche Bank, remarked that cryptographic assets function as a supplement to current market architecture rather than a substitute for legacy financial networks.
As outlined by the lender, the safekeeping platform relies on hardware-backed key security, multi-user authorization procedures, isolated hot and cold storage networks, along with comprehensive restoration and recovery safeguards. Specific technical elements will be managed by chosen third-party technology and infrastructure partners.
Deutsche Bank mentioned that the lineup of supported coins could grow in the future, depending on customer interest alongside internal product-validation, risk assessment, and compliance procedures. Additionally, tokenized financial products remain part of the long-term plan.
