UK Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey has seemingly criticized the way Reform Party head Nigel Farage utilizes Bitcoin.
During an address on Monday, the finance official remarked that pro-crypto parliamentarian Nigel Farage acts like “Liz Truss with a Bitcoin account.”
Farage, who spearheads the growing Reform Party, has faced scrutiny lately for accepting contributions originating from digital asset founders. Liz Truss served as the briefest British Prime Minister and faced severe backlash concerning her debt-driven mini budget in 2022.
“Nigel Farage — he wants you to think he’s a man of the people,” Healey stated. “But when it comes to the economy, he’s Lizz Truss with a Bitcoin account.”
Healey continued by asserting that his ruling Labour Party would advance the United Kingdom “through fiscal discipline, through good work, through strong industries.”
His remarks drew backlash from crypto advocates on the social media platform X, who questioned what a “Bitcoin account” actually meant.
“Apparently ‘Bitcoin account’ is now a thing,” the Simply Bitcoin account posted on X. “Incredible stuff from one of the people running Britain.”
The populist politician Farage has long maintained a supportive stance toward digital currencies. Since 2020, he has positioned Bitcoin primarily around the theme of personal freedom and resistance against government management of currency.
Farage has additionally mentioned that private UK institution Coutts terminated his banking services, which subsequently spurred his curiosity regarding cryptocurrency assets.
Just last year, he proclaimed at the Bitcoin 2025 Conference in Las Vegas that he would reduce cryptocurrency capital gains levies and compel the Bank of England to create a Bitcoin treasury if he becomes the upcoming Prime Minister.
Farage has faced criticism this year for accepting millions of dollars via digital currency contributions from technology entrepreneur alongside Tether backer Christopher Harborne, plus Ben Delo, who co-founded the presently defunct BitMEX digital asset exchange.
The Metropolitan Police have initiated a probe regarding allegations that the Reform organization violated regulations concerning foreign contributions. The party rejects any unlawful behavior and states it will fully assist investigators.
