The organization announced it will back Sen. Jon Husted in Ohio, who faces former Sen. Sherrod Brown, alongside candidates Ashley Hinson in Iowa and Chris Pappas in New Hampshire.
Several weeks after comprehensive cryptocurrency legislation, known as the Clarity Act, stalled during a Senate procedural vote, the digital asset advocacy organization Stand With Crypto unveiled its inaugural series of Senate endorsements.
On Wednesday, the Coinbase-supported coalition stated it would support Republican Sen. Jon Husted in Ohio, who is campaigning against the crypto-skeptical former Senate Banking Committee Chairman Sherrod Brown, as well as candidates Ashley Hinson in Iowa and Chris Pappas in New Hampshire.
On September 15, the Senate failed to approve the Clarity Act via a procedural ballot that would have established a federal regulatory framework for the sector. Among various reasons for the vote’s failure, Senate Democrats ultimately explained they could not support legislation permitting President Donald Trump to benefit financially from the cryptocurrency ecosystem, given his millions in earnings across multiple digital asset initiatives. SWC is well-known for its candidate scorecard, which has since been revised to incorporate that vote.
“Following the Senate’s recent inability to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, Stand With Crypto’s network of more than three million advocates is directing its energy and concentration fully toward securing pro-crypto champions in government who will sustain our campaign for transparent regulatory guidelines,” remarked Mason Lynaugh, executive director of Stand With Crypto, in a Wednesday statement.
SWC and the broader cryptocurrency sector played a major part in the 2024 elections, utilizing super PACs to commit millions of dollars toward steering political outcomes. One particular PAC, Fairshake, invested $12 million in Ohio to back crypto-friendly Republican Bernie Moreno during the 2024 cycle, allowing him to defeat former Sen. Sherrod Brown.
Fairshake had previously supported two sitting Senate Democrats in the preceding election—Ruben Gallego and Elissa Slotkin—both of whom cast votes against the Clarity Act earlier in the month.
House Endorsements
Over the past year, Stand With Crypto has established a voter hub that evaluates lawmakers according to their cryptocurrency stances and previously backed a group of six bipartisan candidates ahead of November. On Wednesday, the coalition additionally backed more House hopefuls after supporting over 30 the month prior. Those additions feature Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Ala.) and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa).
SWC likewise stated it will increase advertising expenditures across six House contests, encompassing races for Democratic Rep. Don Davis and Republican Rep. Bryan Steil. Every single one of these newly endorsed House figures voted in favor of the Clarity Act when it cleared the House during the previous year.
“As Election Day approaches, Stand With Crypto is ensuring that Crypto Voters—a deeply engaged, diverse cohort of constituents dedicated to promoting policies like market structure—possess the necessary resources to make educated choices at the ballot box,” Lynaugh stated.
