The multinational electronics manufacturer explained that this capability is integrated straight into Samsung Wallet, featuring fiat on- and off-ramps instead of functioning as a standalone digital asset application.
Samsung will shortly enable qualifying Galaxy device owners in the United States to execute international USDC stablecoin transactions, as the South Korean electronics manufacturer further broadens its cryptocurrency offerings.
Within an announcement published on Thursday, Samsung noted that Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay will incorporate USDC transfers running on Solana for international money transfers, rolling out during the final week of October across 82 million American Galaxy units.
To be exact, the functionality is embedded directly within Samsung Wallet, complete with fiat on- and off-ramps rather than requiring a distinct blockchain program. Participants will have the ability to transmit USDC to compatible external addresses, while the technological backbone of Solana and Sui functions in the background. This foundational architecture additionally functions alongside Bastion, a regulated stablecoin custodian operating in the U.S.
“Sending money abroad should feel as convenient as using the wallet already on your phone,” stated Woncheol Chai, executive vice president and leader of the digital wallet division at Samsung Electronics. “We’re bringing USDC transfers into Samsung Wallet so eligible Galaxy users can get started without installing another app or managing private keys themselves.”
Samsung indicated that it will waive transaction fees for these movements, although destination wallets or trading platforms might impose charges, and transaction speed relies upon network performance.
Furthermore, the wallet will facilitate payouts to qualifying bank accounts across upwards of 60 nations, with money arriving in the beneficiary’s domestic currency, per the disclosure. Costs associated with this route may differ depending on the target location.
Expanded collaboration
This upcoming capability represents the “next chapter” in the alliance between Samsung and Coinbase, according to the device manufacturer. In the previous year, Samsung broadened its collaboration with Coinbase to allow American Galaxy owners to deposit funds into their Coinbase profiles utilizing Samsung Pay.
Alec Lovett, director of infrastructure products at Coinbase, stated on Wednesday in an online journal entry that Coinbase will provide custody services for the USDC stored inside Samsung Wallet via Coinbase Prime.
“Samsung’s global reach makes this a significant distribution milestone for USDC,” remarked Lovett.
Lily Liu, leader of the Solana Foundation, similarly stated that Samsung’s novel tool “puts digital dollars into everyday life.”
“This level of adoption is what we built Solana for, and we’re seeing the moment when stablecoins stop being a crypto product and start being how people move money,” noted Liu.
Samsung mentioned that it intends to roll out the offering to further regions, depending on regional compliance frameworks.
