The asset management firm committed £50 million ($66.7 million) into the fresh share class, elevating its aggregate investment across its pair of tokenized money market fund products to above £86 million ($114.8 million).
Aviva Investors, which functions as the investment management division for British insurer Aviva, has introduced a tokenized share category for its £22 billion ($29.4 billion) Sterling Liquidity Fund utilizing the XRP Ledger, in collaboration with blockchain settlement enterprise Ripple.
Per a Monday announcement, Aviva allocated £50 million ($66.7 million) toward the newly created share class. Consequently, the company currently maintains upwards of £86 million ($114.8 million) distributed throughout its dual tokenized money market fund selections, which encompasses a U.S. dollar liquidity fund share class that debuted in July.
Originating in 2002, the Sterling Liquidity Fund puts capital into top-tier, pound-denominated short-term fixed-income instruments while providing daily liquidity access. Based in Ireland, it functions as a UCITS money market fund. Employing a “digital twin” framework, participant positions are mirrored on-chain, whereas the underlying fund itself maintains its traditional off-chain operations.

Participants require a qualified cryptographic wallet in order to utilize the fresh share class. Custody of the fund assets is managed by BNY Mellon, with virtual asset custodian Komainu and digital framework provider Licuido additionally aiding the rollout. Aviva stated that these tokenized shares maintain identical investment goals, risk metrics, liquidity features, and compliance safeguards as the traditional fund.
Initial collaboration between Aviva and Ripple began in February, featuring intentions to migrate select traditional investment products onto the XRP Ledger. At that juncture, Ripple noted that Aviva represented its inaugural European investment management collaborator. Following this, Aviva unveiled its tokenized USD Liquidity Fund share class on the XRP Ledger on July 29, having secured clearance from the Central Bank of Ireland.
“We are convinced that tokenized funds can boost operational efficiency and ultimately yield enhanced results for clients,” remarked Mark Versey, CEO of Aviva Investors, within the release. He further noted that the organization intends to investigate additional tokenization ventures alongside Ripple.
