Earlier this season, Fairshake poured millions into the contest in Ohio, establishing its stance in opposition to former Senator Sherrod Brown.
Former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is reclaiming his position in the Senate, leaving the crypto political action committee Fairshake empty-handed as he overcomes sitting Republican Jon Husted.
On Tuesday evening, Brown triumphed over Husted in the contest for Ohio’s Senate seat, serving a blow to Fairshake, a prominent digital asset political action committee that dedicated tens of millions of dollars toward keeping Brown out of Washington.
Earlier this year, Fairshake invested $30 million into the Ohio campaign, targeting Brown directly. The digital asset PAC and the wider crypto sector exerted a major influence on the 2024 elections, deploying millions to shape political results.
This marks not the first instance of Fairshake spending to oppose Brown. He previously served as head of the Senate Banking Committee, where he directed the digital asset agenda and urged a crackdown concerning the utilization of digital currencies for financing terrorism and bypassing sanctions.
Subsequently, in 2024, Fairshake deployed $12 million to support the pro-crypto Republican Bernie Moreno against Brown, ultimately defeating him. Since Democrats have reestablished a majority in the Senate, Brown might assume leadership of the Senate Agriculture Committee, which oversees digital assets and prediction markets, among various subjects. Insiders previously informed The Block that should he take the chairmanship, Brown would probably refrain from putting forward any crypto legislation.
Senator Husted, who received the backing of the blockchain advocacy organization Stand With Crypto, has voted in favor of several digital asset measures, such as the comprehensive crypto bill known as the Clarity Act. Husted holds an A grade from the coalition, whereas he assigned Brown an F score.
Additional contenders supported by Stand With Crypto, including Democrat Chris Pappas in New Hampshire, secured victories in their campaigns.
Other crucial Senate triumphs feature Democratic Senators Cory Booker and Mark Warner, both of whom have participated in discussions surrounding digital asset bills. Democratic Senate hopeful in Texas, James Talarico, earned an A score from the crypto advocacy group Stand With Crypto due to his past supportive remarks on digital assets and his vote supporting the establishment of a strategic bitcoin reserve in Texas. Talarico likewise claimed victory in his race on Tuesday against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Updated at 4:55 a.m. UTC to reflect that Democrats gained control of the Senate
