VerifiedX (verifiedx.io), the programmable financial operating platform designed for Bitcoin and smart assets, revealed today that its Foundation has initiated a $15 million funding round, with initial institutional backers already committing capital. The early funding will support the broader rollout of VerifiedX’s institutional Bitcoin network.
Cantor Fitzgerald is acting as the investment banking advisor for VerifiedX regarding this financing effort. The Foundation has chosen not to reveal the identities of the early participants or the specific terms of their investment at this time.
A portion of these funds is dedicated to growing custody partnerships with organizations such as BitGo, the digital-asset custodian listed on the New York Stock Exchange, which will safeguard vBTC (VerifiedX’s Bitcoin-backed token) as well as vBTC.b (its equivalent on Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network created by Coinbase). Because BitGo functions as a qualified custodian, United States regulatory standards allow registered investment advisers to maintain client holdings there.
The raised funds will also cover exchange listings. Prominent centralized trading platforms plan to list both vBTC and VFX, the native token of VerifiedX, with the initial announcement anticipated in the coming weeks. Furthermore, the round backs lending and borrowing frameworks, which allow asset holders to secure loans against their Bitcoin or earn yields by lending it out without forfeiting ownership or losing redemption privileges.
“Almost every existing method for putting Bitcoin to work on-chain requires the owner to trade it for someone else’s IOU. That is why under 1% of all institutional Bitcoin holdings currently generate any yield. vBTC completely transforms this dynamic, and this financing round supplies the necessary custody, exchange, and lending infrastructure that lets institutions utilize vBTC to actively turn their Bitcoin into productive financial capital,” explained Brian May, a representative of the VerifiedX Foundation.
Traditional wrapped Bitcoin tokens—the standard approach in the industry—typically involve a holder transferring Bitcoin to a custodian or a small federation of signers, in exchange for an off-chain representation on a different blockchain. The reliability of that substitute asset depends entirely on whoever controls the underlying Bitcoin.
vBTC takes the exact opposite approach. When a user mints a vBTC token, the VerifiedX network establishes a unique native Bitcoin address inside each token, and the owner deposits their Bitcoin directly into their own self-custody address. The Bitcoin remains inside that specific address, verifiable right on the Bitcoin blockchain, and never departs the Bitcoin ecosystem. Both deposits and withdrawals require threshold signatures distributed across the validators of VerifiedX, meaning no single entity holds the private key, and participants who prefer not to trust the network’s validators can run their own validator nodes to restrict signing exclusively to themselves. Users can convert back to native Bitcoin whenever they wish. vBTC can serve as a medium for payments, trading, collateral, lending, or treasury management. Meanwhile, vBTC.b applies this exact architecture to the Base network, allowing the asset to be utilized natively within applications there.
