Goldman Sachs currently anticipates that the Federal Reserve will implement another benchmark interest rate hike in October, completely reversing its previous prediction that favored a September increase followed by a pause.
This adjustment follows Wednesday’s decision by the Fed to push rates up by 25 basis points, bringing them to a target band of 3.75% to 4.00%. Furthermore, the central institution’s revised rate outlook indicated that a clear majority of officials project at least one additional bump upward before the year concludes.
During the press briefing after the meeting, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh maintained a stern posture, stating that consumer price inflation continues to be excessive and that the recent adjustment simply eliminated a measure of policy easing. This suggests that monetary conditions are still insufficiently restrictive and that further increases in borrowing costs may be approaching.
Based on current metrics from the CME Group’s FedWatch utility, market speculators are calculating a probability slightly above 50% for an additional 25 basis point adjustment next month.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin keeps hovering around $76,260, registering a minor 24-hour gain of 0.5%.
