Bitcoin (BTC) is approaching a critical threshold as the BTC/USD pair gets ready to turn the annual 2026 candle green.
Key points:
- Bitcoin buyers briefly touched $87,000 across select exchanges, but the 2026 yearly opening mark of $87,570 continues to act as a barrier.
- Market participants are shifting their focus toward the fixed-income sector ahead of Wednesday’s 10-year note tender and upcoming Federal Reserve meeting notes.
- BTC/USD is shrugging off a typically sluggish start to the month, noting that historical October gains have averaged 18.7% going back to 2013.
2026 yearly open becomes Bitcoin’s next resistance hurdle
Bitcoin keeps pressing against upper boundaries after securing its strongest weekly settlement since late January at $86,532 on Bitstamp. Metrics provided by TradingView display temporary spikes reaching $87,000 following the weekly close, representing Bitcoin’s fourth attempt to push higher since September 21. Thus far, bulls have been unable to surpass the yearly open sitting at $87,570.

Across shorter timeframes, liquidity sweeps continue to drive price behavior. Mirroring the previous week, BTC/USD witnessed liquidations among nearby short contracts near $85,500, while clusters of buy and sell orders grew denser around the spot price, keeping price swings contained. Information from CoinGlass highlights concentrations around $83,700 alongside the yearly open.

“Bitcoin continues to be sandwiched between the ~ $82500 key support and the ~ $86700 resistance ahead,” trader and analyst Rekt Capital wrote in his latest X analysis.
Rekt Capital considers $82,500 the vital floor to prevent a return to the earlier 2026 band fluctuating between $60,000 and $80,000. Conversely, a decisive breakout above $86,700 would clear the way toward an elevated channel featuring $93,700 as its upper limit.

Bond market in focus after 24-year highs
Given a relatively quiet macroeconomic calendar within the United States, attention turns squarely to debt markets as traders have largely priced out expectations of additional interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve.
During the prior week, yields on both the 10-year and 30-year Treasuries touched 5.34% and 5.69% respectively — figures not witnessed since 2002. Those returns slipped only slightly following softer nonfarm payroll reports before recovering to cancel out the majority of the dip. As of Monday morning, the 10-year yield hovered at 5.25%.

“The bond market is in the spotlight this week,” analytical service The Kobeissi Letter noted in a Sunday publication on X.
On Wednesday, the central bank will release records from the September Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) gathering, where policymakers voted to lift borrowing costs by 0.25%. Since that time, market forecasts regarding further monetary tightening have fluctuated widely.
