Global asset management giant BlackRock has submitted an application for an additional bitcoin fund, designed to offer participants downside safety along with potential upside participation linked to its primary bitcoin exchange-traded fund.
On Monday, the corporation submitted paperwork to the Securities and Exchange Commission for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protect ETF. The upcoming fund is structured to track BlackRock’s multi-billion-dollar iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, the company explained.
“The Fund seeks to provide upside exposure to the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and/or similar bitcoin exposure up to an approximate limit, while seeking to provide a level of downside protection,” according to the filing submitted by BlackRock.
BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust commands upwards of $65 billion in total assets under management, positioning it as the premier vehicle of its category, based on data from The Block’s bitcoin ETF tracker. January 2024 marked the initial debut of IBIT by BlackRock. Subsequently, in June, the institution rolled out the iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF, a product engineered to grant bitcoin exposure while simultaneously producing monthly income via options premiums.
Via a message published on X, James Seyffart from Bloomberg Intelligence pointed out that BlackRock’s digital asset offerings remain strictly limited to bitcoin and Ethereum vehicles. Throughout the preceding couple of years, competing firms have introduced ETFs centered around tokens ranging from XRP and SOL to DOGE.
“Notably, this is the third Bitcoin ETF filing from them,” Seyffart remarked during Monday’s post. “Still only have Bitcoin and Ethereum products — no other cryptos.”
