Binance reported approximately $3.64 billion in net outflows during the first nine and a half hours after it started enabling withdrawals again on Sunday, following the $6.3 billion security breach on Thursday, the platform stated.
The premier global cryptocurrency exchange stated on X that it handled $4.65 billion in withdrawals and $1.01 billion in deposits between 1 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. ET. It calculated the net outflow as 2.1% of its total $171 billion in assets under management, referencing its most recent proof-of-reserves figures from October 28.
Withdrawal activity has slowed down and is “normalizing as anticipated” after an initial surge, whereas deposit levels “have stayed significant,” according to statements from Binance. The platform commenced reinstating withdrawals progressively at 1 a.m. ET, successfully reopening all 15 networks and tokens in its initial wave by 7:36 a.m. ET.
Binance continues to test the remaining networks and digital assets—which encompass Cardano, Chainlink, Hyperliquid, Litecoin, and NEAR—as indicated by its status page. By 11:22 a.m. ET, the dashboard indicated that withdrawals remained halted for 531 out of the 552 supported coins, while 14 others, such as bitcoin and ether, were partially restored.
As of 11:37 a.m. ET, Binance faced $4.05 billion in net outflows over a 24-hour window, according to data from DefiLlama, which monitors $131.1 billion in assets across the exchange’s addresses. Concurrently, the next 10 largest trading platforms tracked by DefiLlama saw roughly $368 million in collective net inflows over the identical timeframe, spearheaded by OKX with $316.8 million.
Meanwhile, Bitfinex and Gate registered net outflows of $106.3 million and $34.5 million, respectively. Although DefiLlama does not monitor Coinbase or Kraken, bitcoin holdings on those two platforms increased by roughly 984 BTC and 1,422 BTC over 24 hours, whereas Binance’s reserves dropped by approximately 19,289 BTC, based on figures from CoinGlass.
Malicious actors siphoned roughly $6.3 billion out of Binance’s hot wallets on Thursday in what stands as the biggest cryptocurrency exploit in history, prompting the exchange to halt withdrawals temporarily. On Saturday, the FBI assigned responsibility for the theft to the North Korean hacking collective known as TraderTraitor.
Binance is presently processing withdrawals using newly created wallets incorporated into its proof-of-reserves directory. The company announced that a refreshed reserves report, grounded in an October 31 snapshot and generated via zero-knowledge proofs, is anticipated to be published on Monday.
Richard Teng, the co-CEO of Binance, announced on Saturday that the platform had already replaced 90% of the compromised funds and would absorb the remainder. On Friday, Binance stated that it had secured $6.34 billion to absorb losses stemming from the breach.
