OpenUSD (OUSD), the fresh consortium-backed stablecoin launched earlier this year by Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, Coinbase, and Shopify, will implement a 0.1 basis point management fee on transaction volume, which is limited to a maximum of $0.01 per transaction, based on private files reviewed by Coindesk.
These OUSD charges go to Open Standard, the entity managing the stablecoin whose foundational members include Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, Coinbase, and Shopify, each having pledged over $1 billion in near-term rollout liquidity.
The paperwork specifies that transactions totaling $1,000 or greater hit the $0.01 threshold, whereas lower-value transfers are charged 0.1 basis points of the total sum. For example, transferring $1 million at a rate of 0.1 basis points could theoretically result in a $10 fee, but the document notes this is constrained by the $0.01 maximum ceiling.
Open Standard states that OUSD aims to streamline cross-border transactions and lower fiat currency exchange expenses nearly to zero.
In contrast to Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC—where the respective issuers retain the interest earned on reserves—OUSD passes those yields on to its collaborators, less the 0.1 basis point or $0.01 maximum management fee.
Additionally, Open Standard is providing participants an opportunity to acquire equity in the initiative, determined by their OUSD balances and transaction volumes, as outlined in a related memorandum.
Every month, the OUSD network evaluates the volume of the stablecoin that participants maintain and transfer, calculating their portion of the annual equity acquisition pool. The file notes that participants need a minimum of $50 million to be eligible for the pool, and any single collaborator faces a maximum ownership limit of 5 percent across all acquired warrants.
Concurrently with the release of the management fee and equity pool details, Visa published more than 100 pages of technical execution and user instructions for collaborator companies adopting OUSD through the Visa Stablecoin Platform.
