Cryptocurrency-aligned political action committee Fairshake is investing $30 million into an electoral contest in Ohio targeting former Senator Sherrod Brown, arriving closely on the heels of the Senate’s inability to advance comprehensive digital asset rules.
As reported by The New York Times on Monday, the PAC unleashed this multi-million dollar campaign against Brown, marking its most assertive undertaking so far leading up to the November midterms.
Via an email to The Block, a representative for Fairshake verified the $30 million price tag and noted that additional midterm expenditure choices are anticipated to be revealed in the near-term future.
Fairshake and the wider digital asset sector were heavily involved in the 2024 elections, utilizing super PACs to deploy millions in order to sway political results. In Ohio, Fairshake deployed $12 million to support Republican Bernie Moreno, a pro-crypto candidate who ultimately defeated the anti-crypto incumbent Brown. Previously, Brown headed the Senate Banking Committee, a powerful panel that drives digital asset regulation. In that leadership role, he urged authorities to clamp down on digital currency utilization for terrorist financing and sanctions evasion.
Capital began pouring in once more in April to back Republican Senator Jon Husted, who is scheduled to compete against Brown in November. Husted has consistently championed digital asset advancement. The advocacy group Stand With Crypto gives him a “strongly supports crypto” grade stemming from prior remarks, and he has endorsed vital pro-industry bills such as the GENIUS Act.
This development unfolds under a week after the Senate was unable to clear the Clarity Act during a procedural vote that aimed to establish a federal regulatory structure for the market. Senate Democrats argued they could not support legislation that might permit President Donald Trump to gain personally from the digital asset sector, referencing his substantial earnings across various cryptocurrency ventures.
Fairshake previously supported two sitting Democratic senators—Ruben Gallego and Elissa Slotkin—both of whom cast votes opposing the Clarity Act during the previous week.
