COINBASE (COIN) is providing qualified American retail traders the ability to secure IPO allocations directly through its platform, beginning with the upcoming market debut of Oura this week.
Users have the option to apply for shares at the initial public offering price prior to public market trading, with granted shares subject to being fulfilled completely, partially, or denied entirely based on overall interest.
In a Monday blog post, the platform noted, “This new feature is yet another step toward growing the Everything Exchange, as our US customers now gain early exposure to high-interest companies before they hit public exchanges.”
This rollout broadens the company’s expansion outside of digital assets and secondary equities into the primary market, succeeding its earlier rollout of pre-IPO derivatives.
Back in June, Coinbase introduced pre-IPO perpetual futures, beginning with SpaceX, offering qualified international users synthetic price tracking of private companies ahead of their public offerings. Those instruments are derivatives delivering price tracking without granting actual equity in the private firm. Today’s offering functions as a securities product via Coinbase Capital Markets, with execution, clearing, and custody handled by Apex.
The exchange stated it was growing its footprint into equities, options, and supplementary traditional financial assets. Furthermore, it highlighted that American clients would be capable of moving current equity portfolios to Coinbase and trading prominent stocks, indexes, and ETFs.
Earlier this month, the digital asset trading platform submitted a registration statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission seeking approval to offer around-the-clock equity perpetuals.
