Subordinate groups tied to the Fairshake political action committee, which receives primary financial backing from Ripple Labs and Coinbase, have expanded their initial spending targets by more than 50% in what shapes up as a pivotal battleground for control of Congress in 2026.
Based on Federal Election Commission submissions from Thursday, the Fairshake affiliate Defend American Jobs — an organization backing Republican contenders during primaries and general votes — spent $46.6 million on promotional media targeting former official Sherrod Brown and backing Republican incumbent Jon Husted within Ohio’s Senate contest for the 2026 midterms. This financial outlay represented a substantial escalation compared to the $30 million Fairshake originally announced back in September as its target budget to prevent Brown from returning to the Senate.
“I’ve spent my career taking on Wall Street, taking on big pharma, taking on big oil and been successful in many cases,” stated Brown during a Friday interview broadcast on Pod Save America, referencing the attack commercials financed by the digital asset sector, and further remarked:
“Jon Husted is their boy […] They know he’s their guy, they know I’m going to hold him accountable and I guess it’s a perfect storm, so they spend literally tens and tens of millions of dollars.”
With just under three weeks remaining before the United States election, early voting has already been active for 10 days in Ohio. Significantly, the Fairshake-linked committee was not the sole crypto-focused PAC increasing expenditures while Ohio electors cast their ballots. The Digital Freedom Fund, a Super PAC founded by Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, documented roughly $3 million in advertising expenditures this week targeting Brown and endorsing Husted, lifting the organization’s aggregate media acquisitions in the Ohio showdown past $5.9 million.
Fairshake’s outlays have already outstripped its 2024 operations, during which the PAC injected $41 million into backing Republican Bernie Moreno while opposing Brown, who was then seeking Senate reelection. The Democratic politician previously directed the Senate Banking Committee and stood out as a prominent voice challenging legislation and regulations favored by the cryptocurrency industry throughout his congressional tenure.

The Ohio contest is not the exclusive target of Fairshake as midterm elections draw closer. Defend American Jobs noted allocations exceeding $6.7 million directed against Independent candidate Dan Osborn within Nebraska’s Senate race. Osborn faces Republican Pete Ricketts, who previously supported the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act alongside the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins Act during his time in office.
Cointelegraph reached out to both Fairshake and the Husted campaign seeking comments but obtained no immediate response.
How could the 2026 elections shape US crypto laws and policy?
Fairshake has openly stated its objective to “back pro-crypto candidates” throughout 2026 as a component of its strategy to populate the upcoming congressional session with legislators friendly to sector-supported policies. The political action committee revealed in January that it maintained $193 million in available reserves heading into the elections.
Beyond PACs such as the Digital Freedom Fund and Fairshake, alternative digital asset coalitions have actively sought to sway 2026 participants. The Fellowship committee, supported by Anchorage Digital and Cantor Fitzgerald, disclosed outlays surpassing $11 million spanning August 2025 through August 2026, primarily directed toward advertisements backing House and Senate contenders.
