Curve Finance has gone live on the Stellar mainnet, marking its initial native rollout outside of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) network environment.
This launch introduces Curve’s StableSwap protocol to Stellar, enabling participants to freely create liquidity pools, discover existing ones, exchange assets, and supply liquidity, according to a Thursday announcement by Curve Finance and the Stellar Development Foundation.
The StableSwap trading mechanism from Curve facilitates the exchange of tokens with closely correlated valuations, such as stablecoins tied to identical currencies, wrapped bitcoin tokens, and synthetic cryptocurrency variants.
This integration onto Stellar arrives as Curve broadens its horizons beyond EVM-based networks, a strategic shift that founder Michael Egorov noted was propelled in part by institutional interest.
“At Curve, we started exploring possibilities of launching beyond EVM chains if there is demand. Stellar looks like a good fit: it’s closer to the familiar EVM world than many other chains. And at the same time, the demand for Curve is there, and it comes from institutions. Excited to see where this integration goes!” Egorov stated in an official release.
Curve on Stellar
Lending protocols and other financial applications could potentially leverage Curve’s Stellar pools to liquidate collateral or assist users in exiting positions, though liquidity depth must first expand and these platforms will need to integrate the pools, Curve explained.
Furthermore, asset creators could utilize these pools to establish active markets for their supported tokens on Stellar. The network currently hosts stablecoins alongside various tokenized assets, including Franklin Templeton‘s tokenized money market fund, while MoneyGram likewise utilizes the blockchain for international money transfers.
“Stablecoins and tokenized assets only deliver real value when people can move between them efficiently, and Curve’s arrival gives developers on the Stellar network’s proven infrastructure to build those markets,” Denelle Dixon, CEO and executive director of the Stellar Development Foundation, remarked in a statement.
Curve also disclosed intentions to bring its FXSwap exchange to Stellar following the completion of its security audit, though no specific timeline was provided. While StableSwap targets assets whose values maintain a tight correlation, FXSwap accommodates instruments whose pricing fluctuates independently against each other.
“This covers both volatile pairs like crypto assets, and lower-volatility foreign exchange and real-world asset pairs,” Curve outlined.
Established in 2020, Curve has progressively diversified from decentralized token trading into lending markets alongside its crvUSD stablecoin project, currently maintaining approximately $1.27 billion in total value locked according to DeFiLlama metrics.
