Ripple has broadened its XRP Ledger developer toolkit to incorporate a payment framework developed by Stripe and Tempo, offering developers another mechanism to enable artificial intelligence agents to pay for computing, data, and additional digital services using cryptocurrency.
According to a RippleX developer post, version 1.1 of the XRPL AI Starter Kit introduces support for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) alongside the Open Wallet Standard, which allows applications to oversee digital wallets across multiple blockchains through a unified interface.
“Our job is to make XRP and RLUSD first-class options wherever developers are building,” Jazzi Cooper, RippleX head of product, wrote on X. RLUSD represents Ripple’s dollar-pegged stablecoin.
Having previously integrated x402—another web payment standard—in June, Ripple has now added MPP to support both protocols rather than committing to just one.
MPP grants an AI agent, which is software capable of executing tasks independently on behalf of a user, the ability to settle payments continuously during its operations. A provider responds to an inquiry with a designated cost, the agent sanctions the transaction, and the provider supplies the requested asset. Financial technology firm Stripe and Tempo, a blockchain optimized for transactions, jointly authored the standard.
Why the release matters
An AI agent purchasing computational resources or information requires both a medium of exchange accepted by the vendor and software capable of transmitting it. Ripple aims to position XRP and RLUSD among those available selections as creators build platforms that bill autonomous programs for every individual inquiry.
Embracing both x402 and MPP equips developers utilizing either architecture with a method to process transactions on the XRP Ledger.
An enterprise constructing services around the open protocol from Stripe and Tempo can provide XRP or RLUSD settlement options through this latest integration. Consequently, Ripple secures a pathway into applications whose creators selected their transaction standard prior to choosing an underlying blockchain.

The XRP transaction channels could prove particularly advantageous for platforms charging frequent, minor sums. An agent could deposit XRP upfront, execute numerous paid queries, and approve incremental outlays following each response. The service provider could then gather the aggregated fees without recording every single lookup onto the distributed ledger.
This establishes a distinct utility for XRP as funds allocated specifically for session-based payments. While standard individual transactions already accommodate issued tokens such as RLUSD, the session capability currently mandates the use of XRP. Integrating stablecoins into those channels relies on an anticipated ledger modification.
The underlying software currently remains in beta testing. Ripple’s announcement does not cite any enterprise clients utilizing the new MPP integration for commercial purposes, nor does it disclose any transaction volume figures for it.
