Solana expanded its transaction size capacity to 4,096 bytes, providing builders with additional space for zero-knowledge proofs and multi-signature transactions.
Solana increased its maximum transaction capacity from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes to enable creators to incorporate more sophisticated operations into one single transaction, encompassing zero-knowledge proofs alongside novel onchain signature techniques.
The network enhancement went live on the mainnet on Tuesday at the beginning of epoch 1,035 at roughly 1:00 am UTC, based on ledger data provided by the Solana Foundation.
This update additionally rolled out the v1 transaction structure, which preserves complete backward compatibility with older transactions. Previous transaction formats remain functional for decentralized applications and wallet services, although platforms wishing to take advantage of the expanded size must transition to v1 transactions.
A representative for the Solana Foundation informed Cointelegraph that the primary purpose of the enhancement is to assist developers in executing “more actions” through applications like zero-knowledge proofs, transactions demanding multiple signatures, and innovative onchain signature frameworks, by enabling processing demands that previously could not fit into a single transaction.
Back in August, Solana shortened its slot duration from 400 milliseconds to 350ms. During June, the Solana Foundation published proposals to lower slot durations from 400ms down to 200ms, asserting that this adjustment would enhance latency and speed up confirmation times across the blockchain ecosystem.
Solana validators endorsed on August 28 a measure to accelerate the network’s yearly disinflation pace, lowering the future supply generation of Solana (SOL), the native currency of the network.
