Mysten Labs’ Hashi Bitcoin finance ecosystem is set to roll out in stages starting in October, backed by over $500 million in financial pledges from its initial partners.
As revealed by the Sui Foundation on Thursday, Hashi leverages Bitcoin (BTC) as collateral for Sui protocols by generating hBTC on Sui in exchange for locked Bitcoin announced. Potential use cases encompass borrowing, lending, credit systems, vaults, and structured financial instruments.
Upon withdrawal, the hBTC tokens are destroyed, and the corresponding BTC is released back to the Bitcoin blockchain.
Sui noted that the rollout alliance features upwards of 20 enterprises, such as BitGo, Bullish, Cumberland, FalconX, and Ledger. Furthermore, entities including Aftermath, Concrete, and Fluid were highlighted as providers slated to manage Hashi vaults.
Anchorage Digital has signed on to the collective as an inaugural partner, granting institutional clientele entry via its settlement framework and proprietary self-custody wallet. The firm additionally intends to supply stablecoin liquidity to Hashi, based on the disclosure.
“Public companies and institutions hold enormous amounts of Bitcoin, but their ability to use that capital has been constrained by the technology available to them and the limitations of the DeFi space,” stated Nathan McCauley, CEO and co-founder of Anchorage Digital.
Hashi was engineered by Mysten Labs, the original developer behind Sui. The foundation explained that independent third parties will design and deliver financial offerings utilizing the architecture.
