Cryptocurrency asset manager Bitwise reported on Thursday that the company will wind down and shutter its spot Dogecoin (DOGE) exchange-traded fund, roughly 10 months after the product started trading live.
The final trading session on the NYSE for the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) is anticipated to take place on October 14. Investors may continue trading their shares on the secondary market up until the trading session closes on that date.
On October 22, remaining investors will be distributed the net asset value of their holdings determined as of October 21, paid out in cash. Holders are not required to perform any tasks during this procedure.
“Bitwise has chosen to dissolve the Fund while it keeps refining its lineup of products to satisfy changing client demands,” the organization stated in a press release.
The inaugural Dogecoin ETF arrived on the market back in September 2025. Although there appeared to be heavy excitement surrounding the debut of spot Dogecoin investment vehicles, these funds ultimately failed to gain traction among buyers. According to SoSoValue, the funds brought in roughly $318,000 in net inflows during the previous month, which essentially offset modest withdrawals seen throughout July.
The Dogecoin products have gathered roughly $300 million in total trading volume, which is completely overshadowed compared to alternative coin crypto ETFs like Hyperliquid ($2.1 billion), Zcash ($1.5 billion), and Chainlink ($680 million).
Regarding BWOW specifically, the fund reached a peak of approximately $3 million in daily trading activity during its rollout week.
“DOGE started out as a joke and evolved into a symbol of the digital asset revolution. It does not pretend to revolutionize international capital markets or persuade you that it possesses strong fundamentals or real utility,” Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley remarked last year. “Yet, against all odds, it has maintained its relevance—and its value—longer than almost everything else in the crypto space.”
Dogecoin’s market price hovers near $0.084 at the time of publication, giving the asset a $13 billion market valuation. It has slipped out of the leading ten cryptocurrencies over the past year amidst the expansion of HYPE and ZEC.
