North Korea (the DPRK) is currently deploying remote contractors from other nations, such as Iran and Lebanon, to support its strategy of breaching American businesses and generating funds to support its armaments initiatives, as disclosed by NBC on Friday.
An alert published in July by American authorities along with multiple international partners noted that North Korean tech workers “pursue employment contracts with the goal of sending their wages back to their supervising North Korean organizations. They additionally present an internal security risk to businesses and participate in data extraction, digital currency theft, and the pilfering of confidential data.”
As Washington and allied administrations have stepped up measures to block North Korea’s operations, the DPRK has increasingly utilized third-country technology professionals to clear hiring assessments, according to the report. Once the employment agreements are secured, the jobs are generally handed over to North Korean personnel.
NBC outlined that overseas tech workers were discovered via LinkedIn, with selected individuals being promised $500 per month in digital currency to serve on a part-time basis as “interview associates.”

The increasingly complex methods employed by the DPRK appear to be yielding results.
