U.S. artificial intelligence and technology equities declined during Monday pre-market hours after prominent chief executives expressed renewed worries over the weekend regarding the rapid speed of AI progression.
Conversely, digital assets advanced. Bitcoin climbed roughly 1% across the trailing 24 hours to reach $77,800, whereas ether moved up 1% to hit $2,500.
Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, urged the sector to decelerate development so that safety protocols could properly advance. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Elon Musk, whose company xAI created Grok, both expressed their concurrence. Additionally, Anthropic has reportedly chosen Nasdaq for its upcoming initial public offering, while Altman verified that his firm will not pursue a public listing during 2026.
South Korea’s Kospi index dropped 3%, and SK Hynix—which supplies memory chips utilized by AI firms—declined 6%. American technology shares drifted lower in pre-market activity as well, with the Invesco QQQ ETF, tracking the Nasdaq 100, dropping 1.5%.
Alternative cloud infrastructure companies Nebius and CoreWeave experienced drops of 6% and 5% respectively, while semiconductor manufacturers Sandisk and Intel each gave up 5%.
Advancing petroleum costs are compounding market pressure. Brent crude advanced in excess of 3% to reach $107 per barrel, and WTI traded past $103. Extended U.S. Treasury yields drifted downward slightly, with the 10-year yield hovering just under 5% and the 30-year yield registering at 5.355%.
Precious metals dropped back as well. Gold slipped nearly 1% to trade near $4,300 per ounce, and silver decreased by 1.5%.
