Based on information from CryptoQuant, deposits of altcoins onto exchanges have hit their highest transaction volume since October 2025, prompting warnings that investors might be preparing to liquidate their holdings.
Key points:
- On September 28, altcoin exchange deposits achieved a seven-day aggregate of 78,000 transactions, representing the highest frequency observed since October 2025.
- Approximately 51,600 unique addresses transferred altcoins to trading platforms, marking a nearly one-year peak for this metric.
- Bitcoin’s proportion of the overall cryptocurrency market capitalization remained confined within the band it entered toward the end of May.
Altcoin Exchange Inflows Hit Highest Levels Since October 2025
In its newest weekly report published on Tuesday, blockchain data analytics firm CryptoQuant highlighted a sharp increase in exchange deposits involving alternative tokens.
Monitored by the platform, the seven-day tally of altcoin transfer transactions onto trading venues climbed to 78,000 on September 28. This figure represents an increase of roughly 160% compared to the 29,800 transactions recorded on September 14.
“Altcoin exchange inflows have exploded to their highest levels since Bitcoin’s last all-time high,” CryptoQuant observed.

Between September 14 and September 28, the volume of addresses transferring altcoins to platforms nearly tripled, rising from approximately 17,600 to 51,600.
CryptoQuant pointed out that this address metric also peaked at levels not seen since October 2025, characterizing the surge in exchange deposits as widespread.
“When holders move coins to exchanges, they usually intend to sell,” the firm added.

Bitcoin (BTC) has experienced a retracement after briefly surpassing $87,000 last week for the first occasion since January. As documented by Cointelegraph, modifications in exchange order-book liquidity alongside long-term investor supply metrics have been identified as potential barriers preventing additional near-term price increases.
Smaller Altcoins’ Market Share Hits Highest Level Since February
This growth in exchange deposits comes on the heels of recent indicators showing altcoins outperforming Bitcoin.
Previously, Glassnode’s specialized Altcoin Cycle Signal index pointed toward altcoins over Bitcoin. This indicator evaluates price performance for the 250 largest alternative cryptocurrencies by market valuation, omitting stablecoins.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin’s share of the broader crypto market capitalization remained below 60%. Based on figures from TradingView, BTC dominance has hovered between 58% and 60.4% since May 27.

Digital assets positioned outside the top ten by market valuation represented 9% of the aggregate on September 27, marking their largest relative share since February.
