Might perpetual futures create substantial gains for Robinhood (HOOD) investors? A recent study by Mizuho points to high levels of interest in single-stock instruments.
An evaluation involving over 600 regular Robinhood clients revealed that 94% would probably or definitely engage in single-stock perpetual futures should they get introduced. Researchers noted that the risk of eating into current stock trading volumes seems minimal, with 84% of participants indicating they would fund these trades using mostly or entirely fresh capital.
“We consider this a possible major tailwind,” stated Dan Dolev, managing director at Mizuho, in a report published on Wednesday.
On September 29, Robinhood announced its intention to roll out perpetual futures for American customers soon, alongside round-the-clock trading for specific domestic shares.
Yet, Johann Kerbrat, vice president and general manager for crypto and international at Robinhood, mentioned to The Block previously that the firm had no announcements regarding single-stock perps at this time. He additionally noted that Robinhood continues to navigate the SEC’s newest regulatory exemption concerning tokenized equities.
“Even though the exact timeline for single-stock perps remains unclear, we think it is reasonable to expect this offering within a medium-term horizon,” Dolev commented.
Mizuho maintained its Outperform recommendation alongside a $140 price target for HOOD, pointing to the likelihood of single-stock perps launching in the intermediate future. Moreover, Coinbase submitted an application in September to offer perpetual contracts linked to major U.S. equities, highlighting broader market momentum behind this asset class.
