Bitcoin dropped approximately 1.5% to hover just above $84,200 during Asian morning hours on Wednesday as petroleum costs advanced following intensified Iranian assaults on shipping vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which simultaneously drove up Treasury yields and the greenback.
DOGE suffered the steepest drop among top-tier digital assets, contracting 5% to settle around 9 cents. HYPE retreated nearly 4% down to approximately $91, while ether shed 3.5% to reach roughly $2,610. XRP decreased close to 3% to trade near $1.46, whereas BNB, SOL, ZEC, and TRX each retreated between 1% and 2.5%, based on CoinDesk analytics.
The leading cryptocurrency changed hands close to $86,600 on Tuesday prior to a sharp early Wednesday sell-off that dragged it down to a low near $3,840—slipping beneath the $84,000 threshold that FxPro noted Tuesday would represent “a triumph for the bears.”
Transcripts from the Federal Reserve’s September gathering, during which policymakers implemented a quarter-point borrowing cost increase, are scheduled for publication later Wednesday. Softer employment indicators suggest “another rate increase this month look less likely after September’s quarter-point hike,” remarked Dan Khus, principal analyst at LVRG Research, via an email communication to CoinDesk.
“The market had already priced in that hike, so traders are now looking at whether the notes sound patient or still point to one more increase before the end of the year,” he added.
Crude oil dictated market direction throughout Asia. Brent crude appreciated nearly 1% reaching about $101.50 per barrel following accelerated Iranian aggression against oil tankers over recent days. The U.S. dollar gained strength relative to every alternative Group-of-10 currency, while the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield advanced three basis points to 5.31%.
Asian equities experienced declines despite historic closing figures for both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 on Wall Street. The MSCI Asia Pacific index retreated 0.6% as technology equities across South Korea and Hong Kong shifted downward, while U.S. equity index futures erased their prior advances.
Bitcoin currently trades roughly $1,200 above the $83,000 bottom line which FxPro stated would validate bearish dominance—with the institution warning that a breach of that threshold could quickly clear a path toward $80,000.
