Cryptocurrency exchange and wallet provider Blockchain.com has submitted requests for two separate American regulatory permits that would allow it to launch crypto derivatives and prediction markets, according to a Friday report by CNBC.
Granting these authorizations—namely a designated contract market permit and registration as a futures commission merchant—lies under the jurisdiction of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
“Clients ought to be capable of handling their digital currency holdings, executing derivative trades, and wagering on actual occurrences seamlessly, avoiding the need to switch among various applications,” stated chief executive officer and co-founder Peter Smith in remarks highlighted by CNBC.
Blockchain.com presently provides access to prediction markets utilizing Polymarket and perpetual swaps through Hyperliquid, though these services are restricted to international clients outside the United States. Should these regulatory filings gain clearance, it would pave the way for Blockchain.com to deliver these very offerings to American users.
This initiative comes on the heels of a partnership established in September with the New York Stock Exchange to grant Blockchain.com clients entry to tokenized American equities and exchange-traded funds via the exchange’s upcoming electronic trading venue.
Furthermore, Blockchain.com is getting ready for a prospective stock market debut, having submitted a secret registration statement for an initial public offering in May. Additional updates from Bloomberg last week indicated that Blockchain.com aimed to secure approximately $500 million at a company valuation spanning from $4 billion to $6 billion, eyeing a public launch prior to the conclusion of 2026.
It is worth mentioning that Blockchain.com has harbored ambitions for an initial public offering for a minimum of four years. Back in April 2022, the business engaged in discussions with financial institutions regarding a possible market entry that same year, not long after securing a capital injection at a valuation of $14 billion.
