A Brazilian financial infrastructure firm overseeing upwards of 22 trillion reais in registered assets—roughly equivalent to $4 trillion—has commenced publishing data for investment funds managed by BTG Pactual, Latin America’s premier investment bank, onto the XRP Ledger.
CSD BR, which administers authorized settlement, securities-depository, and registration operations in Brazil, is leveraging the open blockchain to maintain a secondary registry tracking ownership shares of specific BTG Pactual investment vehicles, as indicated in a statement distributed to CoinDesk.
A depository preserves the definitive registry of who holds particular securities. When an investor purchases a stake in a fund, the depository updates its ledger, while the banking institutions representing investors maintain their own independent ledgers and periodically cross-reference them with the depository to ensure accuracy.
This verification procedure, known as reconciliation, is sluggish and expensive, and any discrepancy can delay a transaction.
The existing CSD BR database maintains its status as the official registry utilized for registration, settlement, and custody, meaning assets registered with CSD BR are not migrating onto the XRP Ledger. Fund shares deposited with CSD BR will additionally take the form of tokens on the XRPL.

Authorized banking institutions and corporate entities can directly inspect that blockchain copy and verify it against the database managed by CSD BR at any moment, eliminating the need to reconcile internal ledgers post-trade. Every alteration on the XRP Ledger is publicly documented, which includes any corrections executed by CSD BR, meaning any divergence between the two systems remains transparent.
Why utilize an open blockchain?
Numerous depositories and financial institutions have tested private blockchains restricted solely to approved participants. CSD BR adopts an open network while retaining governance over who holds the tokens.
Although any observer can track these token transfers on the XRP Ledger, CSD BR maintains full authority over who is permitted to own and move them.
These tokens rely on the XRP Ledger’s Multi-Purpose Token framework, engineered for financial instruments where issuers require tighter oversight than standard cryptocurrencies like XRP afford. CSD BR possesses the capability to restrict participation, freeze assets, or roll back transactions if mandated by judicial or regulatory authorities. Users are still required to complete standard anti-money-laundering and identity verification procedures.
The initiative kicks off with live fund data, according to announcements from Ripple and CSD BR.
This pushes the implementation past the blockchain trials conducted by banks over the years utilizing test tokens or private networks. Real fund ownership logs are being duplicated onto the public ledger, even though the legacy CSD BR infrastructure retains ultimate legal authority.
Established in 2018, CSD BR holds authorization from both the securities regulator and central bank of Brazil. Its operational frameworks register and sustain positions across financial instruments encompassing derivatives, securities, and auxiliary assets.
The more substantial transformation is slated for a later stage. Assets issued and settled natively on a blockchain can change ownership within seconds, contrasting with the day or more typical of conventional securities transactions. Mirroring live logs initially offers organizations a practical testing ground for those capabilities.
Once CSD BR gains confidence in the mirroring architecture, the partners intend to pilot issuing assets directly on the XRP Ledger and enabling authorized participants to execute trades there.
Prospective candidates feature Brazilian agribusiness receivables and real-estate receivables, representing two mature sectors within the nation’s fixed-income landscape.
