Coinbase has integrated Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin across its app, Exchange, and Prime services, offering par 1:1 USD conversion on the Base, Ethereum, and XRP Ledger networks.
As revealed in a joint corporate announcement on Wednesday, Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin can now be accessed by both everyday users and institutional clients via the Coinbase retail application, Coinbase Exchange, and Coinbase Prime, according to the companies announced update.
Users have the ability to swap U.S. dollars and other compatible dollar-pegged stablecoins for RLUSD on a 1:1 basis, while inbound and outbound transfers are enabled on the Base network, Ethereum, and the XRP Ledger. Future capability for Coinbase Global Exchange users, such as leveraging RLUSD for collateral purposes, is anticipated shortly.
Brett Tejpaul, Co-CEO of Coinbase Institutional, stated in a press statement that institutions demand availability to a diverse selection of payment alternatives alongside trusted execution, settlement, and custody services. He added that integrating RLUSD onto Coinbase marks another milestone toward creating a comprehensive exchange platform where customers select assets matching their specific strategies backed by secure and compliant infrastructure.
This development adds to an active period for Ripple’s institutional growth throughout the week.
At the start of the week, Ripple secured final authorization from the OCC to establish a national trust bank, placing RLUSD under federal supervision. The company subsequently expanded its partnership with BNY to deliver custody services for XRP and RLUSD while simultaneously investigating tokenized trade finance alongside C2FO. Furthermore, Ripple and Robinhood broadened their collaboration to incorporate RLUSD into Robinhood’s institutional and retail operations.
Earlier on Wednesday, Moody’s assigned RLUSD deposit ratings of A2 for the long term and P-1 for the short term, highlighting the credit quality and market value associated with its underlying reserves.
Ripple reports that the RLUSD stablecoin, which originally debuted in December 2024, has now climbed past a market capitalization of $2.6 billion.
