Based on recent accounts, Germany’s multinational financial institution Deutsche Bank is only a matter of weeks away from rolling out its cryptocurrency safeguarding service.
As stated in a Friday Reuters article citing its head of corporate banking, the nation’s largest lender additionally intends to scale this safeguarding infrastructure into the Asian market next year.
Major financial institutions globally are rolling out or preparing to introduce digital asset safeguarding offerings, with institutions like BNY Mellon, State Street, Standard Chartered, U.S. Bank, and Citigroup all pledging to provide direct cryptocurrency custody over the preceding year and a half.
Deutsche Bank initially made public its intentions to roll out a bitcoin safeguarding offering for institutional and corporate entities in Europe back in September, noting at the time that the offering depended on fulfilling the relevant regulatory schedule.
The report from Friday further noted that the platform will initially accommodate prominent digital currencies like bitcoin before transitioning into features that assist customers in transferring capital in and out of stablecoins.
Reuters cited Gerald Podobnik, the co-head of corporate banking, stating that the economic infrastructure will be required to “provide tokenized or distributed ledger solutions.”
Over the past few years, several prominent financial institutions have begun adopting the foundational technology behind bitcoin, known as the blockchain, for their proprietary offerings.
Particularly, tokenization and stablecoins have emerged as prominent subjects of interest as conventional financial institutions seek to speed up specific operations.
Safeguarding digital assets frequently serves as the initial entry point for lenders venturing into the digital currency domain. Back in 2022, BNY Mellon established itself as the inaugural major American lender to deliver digital asset custody solutions.
Institutions such as Citi and Standard Chartered have either launched or revealed intentions for bitcoin safeguarding solutions internationally over the course of this year.
