Billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller made the cryptocurrency sector the focus of his debut post on the social networking platform X, announcing a financial stake in Trade[XYZ], a trading venue collaborating with the owner of the New York Stock Exchange to introduce Hyperliquid-powered derivatives to the United States.
“I am thrilled to be a backer of tradeXYZ$77.08,” the renowned 73-year-old financial figure stated in his Thursday publication, omitting specific monetary figures. He added that he anticipated utilizing the network to enhance his investment strategy.
His publication elicited a brief reply from Elon Musk, who responded with a single term: “Interesting,” drawing heightened notice to Druckenmiller’s arrival on the social media service. That triggered a reply from pseudonymous Trade[XYZ] creator Shoku, who proposed embedding the platform’s perpetual futures natively inside X. “Hi Elon, I would love to find a way to get our perpetual futures integrated into X. It would be a killer product,” he noted. There was no indication that the enterprises were actively discussing such a collaboration.
Druckenmiller’s public backing arrived concurrently with Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent organization of the NYSE, unveiling an alliance with Trade[XYZ] to build a compliant U.S. marketplace for perpetual futures, which are instruments permitting traders to maintain leveraged positions without expiration dates.
The contemplated ICE[XYZ] exchange would provide 24/7 trading for contracts centered on digital assets, equities, commodities, and fiat currencies, pending clearance from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). ICE will manage the specialized U.S. marketplace and settlement mechanics while also securing a minority equity position in Trade[XYZ]. Financial terms were left unannounced.
The pact follows talks between ICE and Hyperliquid stretching back a minimum of twelve months. Hyperliquid co-founder Jeff Yan recounted on X that when he initially spoke with ICE CEO Jeff Sprecher about a year prior, Sprecher inquired what a successful outcome would look like for Hyperliquid. Yan mentioned he joked that it would translate to seeing ICE construct atop the project’s infrastructure.
“I could never have predicted the progress that we’ve made as a community in a single year to make this come true,” Yan commented.
Trade[XYZ], recognized as one of the premier marketplace developers on the decentralized exchange Hyperliquid, stated that its current platforms have processed in excess of $650 billion in transaction volume across just over twelve months. Those marketplaces will persist alongside the prospective U.S. venue, for which an official launch schedule has not been communicated.
This initiative unfolds amid an ongoing regulatory dispute concerning the viability of perpetual futures in the United States. CME Group initiated a lawsuit against the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in June, claiming the watchdog incorrectly categorized perpetual agreements as futures instead of swaps when sanctioning Kalshi’s bitcoin offering. The CFTC has petitioned the tribunal to dismiss the complaint, asserting that CME has failed to prove competitive injury.

Druckenmiller’s commitment also represents more than a single point of financial contact with the Hyperliquid ecosystem for his family.
Based on an official regulatory submission furnished to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Duquesne Family Office maintained 2.94 million units of Hyperliquid Strategies Inc. (PURR), valued at $23.15 million as of June 30.
Hyperliquid Strategies functions as a Nasdaq-quoted digital-asset treasury entity dedicated to accumulating HYPE, the native utility token of Hyperliquid. This positions Duquesne’s holding as indirect exposure to the digital asset via publicly traded equity rather than a declared direct ownership of the cryptocurrency.
The asset position was disclosed in Duquesne’s August filing, which does not confirm if the family office still retains the equity. Trade[XYZ] and Hyperliquid Strategies operate as distinct commercial entities.
Following the announcement, the associated asset experienced a nearly 20% valuation surge on Thursday.
The investments introduce another phase to Druckenmiller’s changing perspective regarding cryptocurrencies.
The veteran fund manager revealed holding bitcoin back in 2020, evaluating its potential as a wealth preservation tool comparable to gold. By 2023, however, he mentioned he no longer maintained a bitcoin position, though he conceded that perhaps he should have.
In more recent commentary, he has demonstrated heightened enthusiasm for blockchain-driven financial use cases. During a March Morgan Stanley conversation, Druckenmiller forecasted that stablecoins could serve as the foundation for worldwide transaction frameworks within a decade to fifteen years, highlighting their operational speed and reduced expenses. Even so, he retained doubts regarding much of the wider crypto sector, describing it as a “solution looking for a problem.”
