Tom Lee, who serves as the chairman of ether treasury corporation Bitmine and co-founded Fundstrat, stated that he views a surge of generational wealth passing to younger participants as a potential catalyst for the upcoming digital asset bull market.
Lee, a seasoned Wall Street figure who established financial advisory and asset management company Fundstrat back in 2014 where he also acts as chief investment officer, referenced projections from the United States Internal Revenue Service along with Fundstrat indicating that $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion in assets could shift owners between 2026 and 2028.
“The wealth transfer underway is expected to support the upcoming crypto bull market as those inheriting wealth are younger and likely have a higher risk appetite for crypto and equities,” Lee noted in a Monday announcement.
His comments mirrored statements made by Robinhood digital brokerage CEO Vlad Tenev during an interview with Jim Cramer on CNBC last month, where Tenev mentioned that upwards of $100 trillion in assets will move from older generations to younger ones across the decades ahead.
The thesis is that millennial and younger investors might allocate a larger portion of their inherited funds into cryptocurrencies compared to preceding demographics, introducing an additional catalyst for buying pressure. Nevertheless, the precise volume of capital that will ultimately flow into digital currencies remains uncertain.
Lee additionally highlighted Wall Street’s expanding adoption of blockchain tech to tokenize financial instruments, the growth of artificial intelligence applications, and institutional crypto treasury firms maintaining long-term token reserves as potential catalysts for a fresh market rally.
Bitmine inches closer to its 5% ETH goal
Lee’s commentary arrived alongside Bitmine’s most recent digital asset portfolio report, indicating that the ether reserve enterprise is coming ever closer to its objective of securing 5% of the total circulating supply.
Bitmine Immersion Technologies acquired an additional 12,532 ETH over the prior week, carrying an approximate valuation of $32 million based on Monday market rates.
That acquisition elevated its total reserves to 6,028,946 ETH, valued near $15.3 billion. This represents about 4.9% of the 122.1 million total ether supply, putting the corporation roughly 76,000 ETH away from its 5% milestone.
Maintaining the pace observed last week, Bitmine could reach this objective in approximately six weeks.
Lee stated last week that the organization intends to halt its token purchases once it crosses the 5% threshold. Ever since shifting toward an ether-centric business model in June 2025, the enterprise confirmed it has acquired ETH on a weekly basis.
Bitmine currently has roughly 5.07 million ETH staked, representing 84% of its entire balance, and anticipates generating about $336 million in annualized staking proceeds at present yield levels.
