On Tuesday, cryptocurrency wallets associated with the United States government shifted in excess of $100 million worth of digital assets, comprising roughly $71.6 million in bitcoin and $31.6 million in BNB, based on information from blockchain analytics platform Arkham.
The administration transferred 833.599 BTC, valued at approximately $71.6 million during the transaction, toward a pair of unlabelled destinations tracked by Arkham. Shortly afterward, these two destinations routed the funds onward to locations identified by Arkham as deposit addresses for Coinbase Prime.
Meanwhile, a separate wallet designated as government property transferred about 40,285 BNB, valued at $31.63 million, to a distinct unlabelled address, 0x7F68F63fB3A9CCCf352409603421E0A574FbAD90. This initial receiving location subsequently forwarded the entire amount to another unlabelled destination, 0x6fB3Fe7b7E78AbB84CE007cBC7412C850B15A579.
The bitcoin originated from a repository categorized by Arkham as forfeited capital from Potapenko and Turogin, totaling 568.7 BTC, alongside 264.9 BTC recovered from the Bitfinex security breach. The BNB tokens were derived from holdings confiscated from Alameda Research.
In total, the state retains roughly $27.5 billion in digital tokens, every bit of which was acquired through law enforcement seizures. Thus far, public funds have not been utilized to purchase new crypto assets.
Movements of this nature frequently trigger anxieties regarding a forthcoming liquidation, though that outcome does not seem applicable in this scenario.
Market analyst Jose Rosell noted on X, “A transfer is not the same as a sale. Under a March 2025 executive order, bitcoin forfeited to the government is meant to be held in a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.”
