World Worldcoin (WLD), the cryptographic identity initiative co-established by Sam Altman, rolled out a specialized edition of its World ID authentication solution tailored for banks and financial institutions on Sunday, marking its inaugural vertical-specific offering.
Alex Blania, co-founder of World, announced the solution during the Money20/20 event. According to an official announcement, the package integrates three established solutions designed to protect institutions against deepfake deception and artificial intelligence masquerading across client profiles, staff procedures, and autonomous AI entities.
The World ID application serves as an identity storage tool that retains and displays what World defines as “Proofs” regarding an individual. World ID for Zoom enables participants on a video conference to verify that their counterpart is genuinely human rather than a synthetic deepfake. Furthermore, World ID for Agents—also designated as AgentKit in the announcement—allows users to assign those cryptographic Proofs to an AI assistant, which can subsequently present them to external platforms.
World also noted that World ID for Zoom is now broadly accessible and that Tools for Humanity, the primary software creator behind World, has become a participant in Zoom’s independent software vendor partner network. Zoom initially introduced the capability as a restricted beta test back in April as part of an expansive World ID enhancement that also featured a Tinder integration. World added that it will showcase the innovation at Zoom’s upcoming Zoomtopia event as well as Cloudflare Connect.
“As artificial intelligence permeates every facet of our daily routines, corporations are increasingly demanding that individuals supply ‘Proofs’ concerning their identity to help suppress fraudulent activity and bolster confidence,” stated Sandro Herbig, President of Tools for Humanity, within the announcement. “World ID tailored for banking and finance delivers a collection of utilities designed to establish an AI-secure foundation of trust across internal and external network architectures.”
Design partners
World indicated it is collaborating with OpenExchange, Bain Capital, VanEck Funds, and Outtake acting as preliminary design partners to “investigate” how its infrastructure can empower banking and financial services. The press release omitted the name of any specific commercial bank utilizing the software and did not disclose pricing terms. Notably, VanEck was identified as the sole financial institution among the participants testing the Zoom beta back in April, based on a previous World blog entry.
The statement referenced a projection by Deloitte estimating that AI-facilitated fraudulent losses within the United States could climb to $40 billion by the year 2027, rising significantly from an estimated $12.3 billion in 2023. World reported that over 18 million individuals currently possess a verified Proof of Human. Back in March, World stated it had successfully authenticated nearly 18 million users spread across upwards of 160 nations when it initially deployed AgentKit in beta leveraging Coinbase’s x402 architecture.
This rollout follows World’s unveiling last month of World Money, a non-custodial wallet featuring stablecoin transaction capabilities accessible across more than 150 territories. Additionally, in July, the World Foundation secured $52.5 million via a private WLD coin offering featuring a twelve-month lockup schedule.
The Block has reached out to representatives at World for an official statement.
