Zcash advanced roughly 20% over the last twenty-four hours after Matt Huang, co-founder of Paradigm, reported that the cryptocurrency investment fund made an undisclosed acquisition of ZEC, a privacy-oriented digital asset that has been surpassing a wider upswing across the cryptocurrency sector.
Zcash (ZEC), a cryptocurrency that enables participants to execute shielded transfers that hide destinations and transaction values through zero-knowledge proofs, changed hands near $1,338 during the latest check on Thursday. This upward movement followed Huang’s Wednesday statement disclosing that Paradigm holds a stake in the Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL) and also maintains ZEC token holdings.
Today’s greater than 10% gain pushes ZEC’s thirty-day appreciation to approximately 160%, contrasted with Bitcoin’s (BTC) 18.2% growth throughout the same timeframe, according to Coingecko metrics.
Huang characterized Zcash as a “private complement to Bitcoin” and endorsed its inflation-backed builder fund, maintaining that sustained support remains crucial as artificial intelligence-driven cyber tactics and quantum computing evolve. He additionally mentioned that he favored merging Zcash token voting with alternative governance approaches to minimize volatility for a monetary asset.
Huang’s governance remarks follow a coinholder survey concerning NU7, the upcoming major upgrade for Zcash, where 99.9% of participating ZEC owners supported reducing target block times from 75 seconds down to 25 seconds, while 98.9% voted to keep the issuance plan and halving timeline unchanged. Developers intend to lock down the upgrade specifications by September 30, though launch dates remain unannounced.
Paradigm’s participation in the broader Zcash network was already publicly known. Back in March, ZODL revealed a seed financing round exceeding $25 million featuring Paradigm, a16z crypto, Coinbase Ventures, and Winklevoss Capital.
The climb in ZEC occurred as the broader digital asset market moved higher following the Federal Reserve’s announcement raising interest rates by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75%-4%, marking its initial hike since 2023.
Privacy-focused cryptocurrencies have also significantly outpaced the broader market environment. Data from Glassnode demonstrated that the category stood 213% above its position during Bitcoin’s peak in October 2025, whereas a collection excluding ZEC grew by roughly 85% over the past year.
