Summary
- Bitway’s BTW token climbed 25 percent over a 24-hour window and 170 percent across the past month, heading up a broader upward movement among smaller digital currencies.
- Bitcoin hovered around $85,900, with market observers cautioning that a drop past $84,000 could pave the way for a rapid decline toward $80,000.
- Bitcoin derivatives positioning steadied as open interest remained close to $21.9 billion, funding rates moderated, and total daily liquidations hit $163 million.
Smaller digital assets are capturing the attention once again as bitcoin BTC$86,320.95, ether ETH$2,715.71, and other leading cryptocurrencies continue trading within an uneven band.
Pacing the advances is BTW, the native currency of Bitway, which functions as a proof-of-stake layer-1 blockchain compatible with bitcoin and equipped with decentralized finance features. The asset has surged 25% over the prior day and registers a 170% increase during the last 30 days.
BTW has also been generating buzz across social media channels following the conclusion of Binance Wallet’s “Booster Season 5” promotional drive on October 2. That initiative provided incentives for deposits, which likely spurred greater retail participation.
This upward momentum also appears tied to a wider rotation toward lower-capitalization altcoins. Filecoin’s FIL token and LayerZero’s ZRO token have picked up 12% and 10% over the course of 24 hours, respectively, and both boast gains of 50% or higher spanning a four-week timeline. Midnight’s NIGHT coin recorded an 8% increase across that same 24-hour duration.
Conversely, SKY, VVV, and DASH emerged as the three weakest performers among the top 100 digital assets ranked by market capitalization.
As for bitcoin, it stays locked inside its established band. The premier digital currency changes hands at $85,900 as of this writing, following a dip toward session lows around $85,000 earlier in the day.
“A drop beneath $84K would represent a victory for sellers, and a breach under the recent local troughs at $83K would confirm this development with even higher certainty. Under that condition, the flagship cryptocurrency could slide toward $80K rather quickly,” noted Alex Kuptsikevich, senior market strategist at TheFxPro.
Derivatives positioning
- BTC open interest stayed essentially level at $21.9B compared to $22.0B, whereas funding rates softened slightly to hover between 0% and 5% annualized across platforms, retreating from the previous 4% to 10% bracket. The 3-month annualized basis held firm inside the 5–6% window. Market positioning is normalizing after Friday’s buildup, meaning leveraged long positions persist, but excess heat has left the funding rates.
- Options activity favored call options, showing a 24-hour put-to-call volume breakdown of 62/38 favoring calls. The 1-week 25-delta skew stays negative near -2%, and the at-the-money term structure remains unaltered, staying in contango from a front-end reading of 24–25% scaling up to approximately 39% by late 2027.
- Data from Coinglass points to $163 million in daily liquidations, broken down by a 63-27 ratio favoring long positions over short positions. BTC at $51M, other tokens at $21M, and ETH at $19M led the board in terms of absolute liquidation amounts. The Binance liquidation map highlights $87,150 as a critical liquidation threshold to watch if prices turn upward.
Token talk
- Privacy-focused coins resisted overall market softness to capture the day’s top returns, with Monero (XMR) rising 1.9% to reach $557 and Zcash (ZEC) climbing 2.5% to push back above $1,350 as appetite for anonymous layer-1 currencies stays robust amidst shifting macroeconomic sentiment.
- Near protocol NEAR$5.2600 stood out among alternative tokens by advancing 4.5% over a 24-hour span to trade at $5.25 as buying interest returned following last week’s sharp industry-wide correction.
- Rain protocol RAIN$0.01143 paced the day’s decliners, giving up 5.6% as selling pressure returned in the wake of recent token supply unlocks and general profit-taking across speculative low-cap altcoins.
- Large-cap DeFi tokens traded marginally lower, as Uniswap (UNI) dipped 1.4% to $8.89 and Chainlink LINK$14.09 eased 1.2% to $14, illustrating quiet range-bound trading across decentralized finance networks.
- Sui SUI$1.2041 gave back its recent gains, retreating 3.2% over a 24-hour period to change hands around $1.20 as the layer-1 asset continues absorbing its recent multi-day volatility.
