Lily Liu, the president of the Solana Foundation, stated that the Solana Accelerate gathering in Shanghai has been delayed because pre-registrations surpassed the limit established by regional officials.
Liu explained in a Friday message on X that sign-ups multiplied by four overnight following promotion for the gathering, noting that planners chose to delay the conference in order to “adhere to regional regulations.”
Earlier on Friday, users on X reported that the gathering was “suddenly halted” as police personnel were deployed at the location.
Back in October 2025, a Solana gathering in Shenzhen was also terminated prematurely because of venue size and public safety issues, as reported at the time by the official Chinese-language community account for Solana on X.
Based on the schedule on the conference website, Shanghai was intended to kick off the four-city Accelerate China tour for Solana, with subsequent stops in Hangzhou on Sunday, Shenzhen on Tuesday, and Beijing on Thursday.
This delay came right after leaders at Solana advertised a brand-new Shanghai office earlier in the week.
China bans multiple cryptocurrency-related activities, such as token sales, exchange trading, and mining operations. In February, the People’s Bank of China alongside seven additional departments reinforced these prohibitions through a directive that introduced further bans, which featured unauthorized creation of stablecoins pegged to the yuan.
