UniCredit Bank is looking for a technology vendor that can help it establish the framework required for digital asset trading, custody, and entry into tokenized investment vehicles.
As reported to Bloomberg on Friday by sources close to the situation, the Italian financial institution is currently holding preliminary talks, with a focus on digital asset storage and brokerage services, tokenized financial instruments, and fixed-income assets backed by stablecoins.
Cointelegraph reached out to UniCredit for statements regarding which technology vendor could potentially supply this infrastructure.
A number of prominent financial institutions are currently testing digital asset and stablecoin frameworks, such as the fifth-largest commercial lender in the United States, U.S. Bank, which executed a live cross-border payment on Wednesday using its native USBDC stablecoin.
On September 3, the London-based international bank Standard Chartered rolled out spot trading for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) catering to institutional investors located in the United Arab Emirates. Earlier, the lender introduced digital asset custody solutions within that geographic area back in September 2024.
During August, the biggest financial institution in Israel, Leumi, joined forces with Galaxy Digital to give clients access to Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana (SOL) trading through its proprietary investment portal, with a rollout anticipated by early 2027.
