American cryptocurrency platform Coinbase and payment architecture company Moov have joined forces to introduce stablecoin payment processing, settlement, and instant funding to upwards of 1,000 credit unions and community banks.
This collaboration stands out because it embeds stablecoin functionality right inside the legacy banking architecture utilized by smaller financial entities.
“Community banks and credit unions have watched their account holders engage with digital assets for years,” remarked Ryan VanGrack, Coinbase’s head of corporate affairs, in a statement. “Contemporary technology needs to meet neighborhood institutions right where they currently operate, supplying them with the resources to rival major corporations while keeping the qualities that make them trusted neighborhood foundations.”
The integration leverages Coinbase’s Payments API alongside custodial wallets to incorporate stablecoin pipelines straight into Moov’s current payment network. Consequently, institutions can facilitate client transactions, vendor acquisition, clearing, and distributions without needing to design proprietary crypto systems.
“Citizens Bank of Edmond has spent 125 years serving Main Street enterprises,” noted CEO Jill Castilla. “Local financial institutions like ours innovate by addressing the challenges brought directly to our branches. At Citizens, we have designed patented ATM hardware, organized community celebrations and commercial incubators, and engineered programs for small business assistance during nationwide emergencies. Today, our merchant clients desire methods to reduce processing fees and receive funds quicker.”
The banking strategy of Coinbase (COIN) has shifted from functioning mainly as a digital asset market and depository to offering foundational tools that integrate seamlessly into standard financial offerings. Early last year, financial analysts noted that Base and stablecoins positioned Coinbase to evolve into essential crypto architecture.
During July 2025, PNC collaborated with Coinbase to deliver virtual currency features to its account holders. Subsequent agreements with Citi and JPMorgan appeared shortly afterward. This overarching drive establishes Coinbase as a central structural supplier for financial institutions as the digital asset trading platform advances its vision to become a comprehensive trading hub.
