Hanwha Investment & Securities, a prominent South Korean brokerage firm, has allegedly created a tokenized securities network utilizing Avalanche (AVAX).
Based on a Sunday publication from Seoul Economic Daily, Hanwha initiated the development of this infrastructure back in 2025 alongside blockchain engineering enterprise FairSquare Lab. The system was engineered to function across diverse networks, featuring both Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu.
This reported initiative by Hanwha occurs just months prior to South Korea’s legislative adjustments coming into force on February 4, 2027, which will officially acknowledge distributed ledgers as official securities registers and integrate security tokens inside the traditional capital markets framework.
Simultaneously, the Financial Services Commission, which acts as South Korea’s principal financial watchdog, revealed a three-phase rollout plan for the impending security token regulatory reforms.
Once these regulations become active in February, the FSC will permit the tokenization of privately issued money market funds, debt instruments, non-publicly traded equities managed via trust structures, alongside fractional ownership investment vehicles.
Assuming these initial phases yield positive results, the regulatory agency aims to expand tokenization to encompass every publicly traded security and eventually establish onchain settlement pathways enabling participants to finalize tokenized asset transactions using stablecoins.
Hanwha has consistently grown its presence within the digital ledger and tokenization sectors. Over an extended period across three distinct subsidiaries, the Hanwha Group accumulated a 9.6% ownership interest in Securitize (SECZ), establishing itself as the company’s primary shareholder. In a separate development in July, the financial conglomerate’s investment and brokerage arm introduced a 30 billion Korean won, equivalent to $22.3 million, funding allocation into Canton Network manager Digital Asset.
